First organic, heirloom Black Krim tomato

There are actually 2 or 3 more on the adjacent bush. I can't wait to photograph them in all their verdant dark greenish burgundy beauty.
today so far:
I went to a great kiosk today in bethesda for my blog, and of course lost the business card with contact info.
The man in the random garden near Whitman turns out to be 'the wig man'.
I just found out I have a most unlikely secret admirer when he called to tell me so.
I lost another pound and worked out.
It is very humid today and so now I am coughing again.
Bethesda Magazine Big Train baseball game tonight.
Got our invite to attend Legg Mason in Donald Dell's box.
Needing a cold drink but will satisfy the urge with seltzer.
Michael thinks my potential new pet looks like a rat or mophead.  is that enough for one partial day?

Twin Springs, the Y, library and summer

I love Twin Springs farm market on Tuesdays in the YMCA lot. Just returned with a huge bag full of fresh zucchini, yellow squash, wax beans, raspberries, blueberries, garlic and tomatoes. That, the Y pool and the Davis Library all remind me of summer in Bethesda when my kids were little. I am on an austerity kick (whatever that means in Bethesda) and have about a dozen books on hold at the library. Today picked up another Diana Kennedy cookbook, White Tiger by Aravind Adiga, Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah and Land of Marvels by Barry Unsworth. I'd best stop typing and start reading. Next up: getting all my poetry on the computer for a new project.

Day 2 and counting

South Beach day 2 isn't so bad (and it's already 10:55 am!!!). I feel like I'm losing a ton of water weight, and I haven't had a drink in 24 hours! The Rick Bayless Mexican cookbook proved to be a fortuitous read...the first chapter or so details his weight struggles and ensuing epiphany that eating right, not dieting, is the key. I knew I'd like that book. I first discovered it while in San Miguel de Allende a few weeks ago. I stayed in a villa stocked with random paperbacks and "Falling in Love with San Miguel" was the one I picked up and didn't put down till we left. The women in the book--Phoenix transplants who moved to San Miguel--often went to the local markets to shop for ingredients to make recipes from Bayless's book. So I figured it was a winner. I am having a love affair with San Miguel and so anything associated with it just impels the crush and makes the heart flutter. Cookbooks included. Day two of "back to the gym" went well. Spin classes both days at max heart rate. Wow. I kick ass at spinning. Now if that would just transfer to a little chub loss.

No day's a good day for starting South Beach

After an exuberant June & July drinking and eating whatever I want, whenever I want, I've decided to call on South Beach for help to knock of some excess poundage. In order to save money, I am using my *used* copy of the book rather than join online. Last night, instead of working on my other, real blog, I made a shopping list. Which I forgot to print. And therefore didn't have at the store today. But I was able to have a South Beach smart lunch at Mon Ami Gabi--the spinach/salmon salad--when I met my fun writer friend, Cathy. Why South Beach you ask? Well, I was just in Buck Fall in PA and met a man who just lost 52 pounds on the diet. But now I'm starving and had the smallest piece of bread --BAD-- with my afternoon string cheese. Wrong day to pick up Diana Kennedy's FROM MY MEXICAN KITCHEN and Rick Bayless' MEXICAN EVERYDAY, two cookbooks I had on hold at the library inspired by my wonderful trip to San Miguel, where I ate myself silly anytime Silvia made anything to eat at our villa. Here are some pictures from that amazing trip:
